Masik's types of varietal olive oil

Leccino

 

Origin: Italy
The Tree: Large, intense green color, fast-growing.The Fruit: Medium sized, oval, ripens early in the season. Cure the olives when green or dry-cured when black
The Oil: Extremely delicate flavor and aroma, mildly spicy and bitter. Withstands high heat and is especially suitable for frying, cooking and baking

Picual

 

Origin: Spain
The Tree: Medium size with a circular tree top. Also used for landscaping
The Fruit: Oval, medium sized with a stigma at the top. Cure when either green or black
The Oil: Flavor reminiscent of almonds, mildly spicy and bitter. Recommended for seasoning pasta and cold foods. Highly recommended for
frying, cooking and baking

Koroneiki

 

Origin: Greece
The Tree: Small with round treetop and small leaves
The Fruit: Extremely small, grow in clusters
The Oil: Delicate flavor with an oily texture. Great for seasoning Middle Eastern-style foods and
for cooking and baking

House Blend

 

The Oil: Kibbutz Magal combines oil from selected varieties from its own groves to make its house blend. Each variety is tasted by a team of experts and certified tasters, who decide on the specific blend for that year, depending on the taste and texture of each variety. Flavor and fragrance is unique to Masik Kibbutz Magal. Delicately flavored
Suitable for both cooking and seasoning

Askal

 

Origin: Israel
The Tree: Result of cross-breeding of Barnea and Manzanillo trees. Tall and axial with wide leafs
The Fruit: Elliptic, like Barnea. High oil count
The Oil: The Askal is a new Israeli specie. Moderately spicy and bitter and very aromatic.  Especially suitable for seasoning cold foods

Souri

 

Origin: Tyre (Sur), Lebanon
The Tree: Slow growing, with a circular treetop, about four meters high
The Fruit: Elliptic, medium sized, considered the best olive for home curing
The Oil: Very spicy with a bitter taste. Highly suitable for seasoning cold salads and for drizzling on hummus

Coratina

 

Origin: Italy
The Tree: Acclimatizes quickly to various environments
The Fruit: Large, oval. Ripens late in the season. The olives are cured while still green
The Oil: Extremely pungent taste and aroma, very spicy and bitter. Great for seasoning cold foods

The Oil: Masik Kibbutz Magal’s organic olive oil combines a variety of species grown in the organic section of our groves. The blending takes place only after the oil from each variety is tasted by a team of experts and certified tasters. Every year the combination is newly determined by the taste and texture of each variety.
